IQ™ DHA
Essential Fatty Acids
DHA
(docosahexaenoic acid) is an omega-3 fatty acid essential
for mental, visual and cardiovascular health. As dietary intakes
of DHA have declined, the need for supplementation has increased.
Today,
average American daily intake of DHA is estimated to be 100
mg lower than 50 years ago. Because of this, an unhealthy
imbalance is created in the body between omega-3 fatty acids
and more plentiful omega-6 fatty acids. Low DHA levels have
been associated with behavior problems in children and neurological
conditions in adults. IQ puts DHA back into the diet, helping
maintain healthy blood levels of this substance.
A 1996
poll of 800 Americans by the Biotechnology Industry Organization
found staying mentally sharp as they grow older is important
to more people (36%) than avoiding physical disability (20%)
or a change in physical appearance (6%). Similarly, a 1996
Yankelovich survey found the biggest fear among Americans
aged 51 and older was senility, followed by aging.
Pure and
safe, IQ’s vegetarian DHA is extracted from microalgae
grown under tightly-controlled conditions and is easily metabolized.
DHA is especially important for pregnant and lactating women
because of its role in the formation of signal transmissions
in the brain and nervous system.
